FIELD DAY 2016 IS ALMOST HERE
The Santa Clarita Amateur Radio Club is happy to announce that we will be holding our annual Field Day event at the Castaic Lake Water Agency headquarters, just above Central Park in Saugus. Everyone is welcome to stop by, Hams old and new as well as the General Public. You can see our setup, which allows us to practice our communications skills in case we are needed during an emergency, learn about amateur radio and all it offers to you and the community, and even get on the air and make some contacts with other Field Day stations.
Central Park is located at 27200 Bouquet Canyon Road. You can go to this link, http://www.arrl.org/field-day-locator, put W6JW in the ‘Location or Call Sign’ box, hit Search, and zoom in to the Green locator pin. Enter Central Park at the traffic light on Bouquet, make your first left after entering at the gate with the guard shack, then follow the road to the top of the hill, make a left and look for the parking lot. We will be on the patio behind the globe and out in the gardens.
We will be open for visitors on Saturday, June 25 from 11 AM until 5 PM, and again on Sunday, June 26 from 9 AM until 11 AM. We’d like to thank the Castaic Lake Water Agency for their gracious use of their facilities for this event. We hope to see you there.
If you have any questions, please contact Chris Edwards at ‘kk6mly <at> dslextreme <dot> com.
Amateur Radio License Exams
Sessions are held on the 3rd Saturday of every odd month (January, March, May, July, September, and November) at the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center – Room A6. If you wish to take a test, you need to contact Ron Klein, K6VPV by telephone (661) 259-0948 at least five days before the testing session. This is so that we can have the necessary forms and testing materials ready for you and so that you can be informed on what you need to bring with you.
Our next test session will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016 @ 8:00 AM
The Santa Clarita Amateur Radio club is pleased to announce the installation of our first digital repeater – a Yaesu System Fusion DR1-X. The repeater is at the Castaic Lake Water Agency site, using 146.970, -0.600, 123.0 PL. It is set to operate in AUTO / AUTO mode, where analog signals will be passed as analog and digital signals will be passed as digital. Analog and digital radios cannot communicate with each other directly in this mode, so if you hear repetitive noise bursts on analog it indicates there is a digital QSO already on the repeater. The system is currently standalone – not linked with other repeaters or the Internet. These will be future developments. Please give it a try and see how you like it. Feedback or bug reports can be sent to Chris, KK6MLY via email – kk6mly [at] dslextreme [dot] com, or during the weekly club nets.
There will be a T-hunt this weekend on Saturday evening. For more info on T-Hunts you can contact Danny, W6DDW @ 661-296-2339. Click Here for details such as meeting time and location.
